Improving the learning environment for students and staff in a smaller, more remote project
Harvard School District reached out to Allied Facility Partners wanting to save energy while creating more usable teaching spaces. The District sought a partner to support this effort willing to travel to a more remote district eager to take on this project despite its modest size.
Due to space limitations in the building, Harvard Junior High’s library was being used for traditional library services as well as for class instruction. This caused distractions for users of both spaces and led to long equipment run times. Allied took on the challenge to separate the teaching space from the library while keeping an open feel to the overall room. Allied created two learning spaces divided by a solid partition wall with a glass wall and door separating the library from these spaces. Allied also modified and installed supporting mechanical and electrical components to make the space ideal for learning and optimize equipment operation.
In addition to this library work, Allied accomplished additional energy savings through a lighting upgrade, standardizing with fixtures the district has selected for other areas and adding wireless control for the lights. In doing this, Allied was able to maximize the benefits of utility incentive programs and greatly offset the cost of these upgrades and minimize budgetary impacts.
